AirAsia Considering Possible Expansion to Cambodia

PHNOM PENH: AirAsia is reorganizing the company on a new holding of four airline units, in order to better distinguish the brand. The group will unite the airlines in Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia into a united holding company called AirAsia Aviation Limited.

The company has also hinted at Cambodia as one potential market for the new venture. Current group president and future chief executive of the holding company, Bo Lingam has stated that AirAsia: “will continue to review new markets to operate from in the future, like Cambodia for example, when we can connect [Southeast Asia] once again with the best value fares and lifestyle offerings.”

The group president has also expressed hope that the pandemic will soon stabilize and airline companies will soon recover, helped by a ramp-up in vaccinations followed by an easing of travel restrictions, as for Malaysia, where the group is based.

“Pleasing progress is also underway in our other airlines in Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines as services are resuming in line with accelerated vaccination rates and the easing of travel restrictions in our key markets,” he adds.
